Being Prime Minister
is J.D.M. Stewart’s book about the behind-the-scenes lives of Canada’s prime ministers. From travel to pets, to life with celebrities and the need for privacy, all of our prime ministers from Sir John A. Macdonald to Justin Trudeau have had experiences that reveal them to be vain and vulnerable, humorous and hardworking, and sometimes not that different from us. Mr. Stewart will peel back the curtain and show us what the people and the job are really like.
J.D.M. Stewart has been teaching history at Bishop Strachan School since 2001. His writing has appeared in newspapers across Canada for more than 25 years, and some people will rightly note he got his start by writing letters to the editor of The Globe and Mail, the first of which appeared in 1991. Being Prime Minister was published by Dundurn in 2018. In 2012 he was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to history in Canada.
