Heat Wave, a Paradise Café series by Maureen Jennings

Like most of the country, Toronto in 1936 was suffering in more ways than one. The economy was terrible, many men who had fought in the war were bitter about their treatment. So much for ‘heroes.’ Then in July of that year, Toronto was hit with a record-breaking heat wave. Temperatures never recorded before or since. This is the setting for Maureen Jennings’ latest novel, Heat Wave, the Paradise Cafe series. She has a new protagonist, PI Charlotte Frayne but this is still the world of Detective William Murdoch and his son, Jack, is following in his father’s footsteps.
