Corktown: Shakers, Idols and Guardians by Coralina Lemos

In his conversation of Corktown, historian J.M.S. Careless (1919-2009) once said, “People Make Neighbourhoods.”

Corktown, Toronto, acquired its named sometime after the mid-19th century due to the predominance of Irishmen in the area. Yet, as years went by its settlement pattern changed resulting in its history including stories of people from different ethnic backgrounds.
